Cooking is a universal language. It brings people together from all walks of life and is an important aspect of various cultures around the world. Breaking bread is a common tool for building connections, and often helps to facilitate and establish rapport. But what do you do, in times like these, where the world is socially distancing, and people can’t congregate for a home-cooked meal? Well, content creator, Alyssa McCants, has taken to Tik Tok to share her delicious creations with the world and has since used the platform to launch her future business ventures soon to come.

Alyssa began cooking as a child. Inspired by her father, who is a licensed cook, she had developed a deep appreciation for the culinary arts at an extremely early age.

“I’ve probably been cooking since I was a little girl. Maybe, um, cause my dad is a professional chef, so yeah, probably like five, six years old,” (McCants, Alyssa. Interview. By Henry Charles McCants V. 18 April 2021).

As she got older, she began to hone her skills more. Trying new recipes, and developing some of her own, she quickly developed a talent for cooking.

Beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic, while being forced into her home, Alyssa decided to share her love of cooking with the world, opting to use Tik Tok as her chosen medium.

“I feel like everyone saw the things they liked, just make a left turn, and to just have something new, and it not be the same things you’re subscribing to. It was positive and able to keep things lively. So that’s why I kind of veered off to Tik Tok,” (McCants, Alyssa. Interview. By Henry Charles McCants V. 18 April 2021).

Originally created as a cooking page, her profile didn’t grow in popularity, until she started posting funny videos of her dog, Luna. These videos would ultimately provide the traction that her page would need to give her cooking videos the much-deserved exposure that she initially wanted.

In the future, Alyssa plans on transitioning her success on Tik Tok into the business world, with a catering/party planning company that would host events in a COVID-friendly environment. By doing this, she can ensure that people could come together to enjoy good food, and good times, in an environment that is safe for everyone. To keep up with Alyssa and Luna as they embark on this journey, you can follow her Tik Tok @Moochez_, where she is constantly posting new and engaging content about cooking and her personal life that will have you scrolling for hours.
